The sculptural composition depicts a seated … Read more A beautifully modeled Austrian Art Nouveau figural chamberstick by Ernst Wahliss, Turn-Teplitz, circa 1897–1906.

The sculptural composition depicts a seated young woman emerging from a stylized lily pond, modeled in a soft matte golden-ochre finish. Behind her rises a large trumpet-shaped flower forming the candle socket, glazed in luminous shades of pale blue and white. Green water lilies and flowing blue-green water motifs surround the figure, while a curving loop at the rear completes the chamberstick form.

The juxtaposition of the matte figure with glossy and subtly iridescent aquatic glazes is characteristic of Wahliss’s turn-of-the-century Jugendstil production, in which the female figure and natural forms were often merged into functional decorative objects.

The underside retains the blue Déposé / EW / Turn Wien / Made in Austria crown mark used by Ernst Wahliss from approximately 1897–1906, together with impressed model number 4673 / 19 and additional factory markings.
