The rounded body is finished in a deep glossy cobalt-black ground and richly decorated with flowering branches, delicate spider webs, and small spiders picked out in gilt, warm brown, and white enamel. The elaborate naturalistic imagery is characteristic of the inventive Jugendstil designs for which the Turn-Teplitz Amphora workshops became celebrated around the turn of the 20th century.
The upper section contrasts dramatically with the dark body, featuring an ivory-toned fluted shoulder, sweeping gilt-edged spout, and sculptural pierced handle with raised organic decoration. Gilt detailing continues around the rim, shoulder, and foot.
Spider and spider-web imagery appears on a number of documented Amphora designs from this period, reflecting the Art Nouveau fascination with unusual natural forms, insects, flowers, and intricate organic structures.
The underside bears a worn Imperial Amphora / Turn-Teplitz factory mark, consistent with production by the celebrated Bohemian Amphora works.
