Immerse your space in the soulful artistry of the American Southwest with this exceptional, museum-quality vintage 1978 "Clay Basket" bowl by renowned California studio ceramicist David Salk. Actively preserving indigenous crafting legacies, Salk utilizes a meticulous process to create a "fossilized" version of traditional woven tribal baskets out of high-fire stoneware. The exterior and interior of the unglazed clay body have been masterfully incised with tight, concentric rings that perfectly mimic coiled basketry fibers.
This early, highly detailed 1978 piece features an arresting, hand-painted iron oxide wash pattern showcasing stylized frog or lizard effigies alternated with directional geometric arrows. The interior and exterior base are anchored by a spinning sun or starburst whorl medallion. The underside bears the crisp, hand-incised signature "David Salk 1978" next to the central whorl. Elevating this spectacular piece is its included custom-made 2-inch black wrought iron tripod display stand, elegantly elevating the vessel into an imposing architectural centerpiece.
