A charming early 20th-century porcelain rose bowl featuring a softly rounded, bulbous form and a deeply scalloped opening accented with gilt detailing. The exterior is hand-painted throughout with loosely rendered pink roses, deep green foliage, and delicate gray botanical accents set against a softly blended aqua, pale blue, blush pink, and lavender ground.
Its flowing floral composition and organic scalloped silhouette reflect the romantic decorative character associated with Continental European porcelain of the period. The porcelain blank is unmarked, and its exact maker and country of origin remain unknown; however, its form and decorative treatment suggest possible Continental European manufacture.
The floral decoration is signed by the artist near the lower portion of the vase. The signature is partially legible and appears to read “O. B. Bryant,” although the precise spelling cannot be confirmed.
A distinctive decorative accent for a mantel, console, bookcase, dressing table, or traditional and grandmillennial interior. It can be displayed empty as a sculptural object or used to hold a low floral arrangement.
