The bottom stamp confirms it was made by Assid, a former championship boxer turned master woodworker who opened his furniture workshop in Okemos, Michigan, in 1945.

Assid specialized in high-end, hand-turned reproductions and reimagined adaptations of classic Early American, English and French country designs. His work is highly regarded by collectors for its exceptional bench-made quality, hand-turned components, and rich finishes.

FUNCTION: Measuring a perfect cube at 19"h x 19"w x 19"d, this cross-shaped (cruciform) structure is engineered as a space-maximizing tabletop library piece. The central turned column sits on a heavily weighted, circular pedestal base. A smooth 360-degree swivel mechanism allows you to easily spin the rack to access books from any side.

DESIGN: It features four distinct partitioned compartments radiating outward. Each compartment is framed by elegant, hand-turned wooden spindles and balustrade railings that securely cradle books, magazines or media. The topmost tier features a small, integrated circular table surface finished with a green leather inset featuring tooled, gilded gold-leaf detailing. This served traditionally as a platform for a reading lamp, a dictionary, or a cup of tea.

MATERIAL & CONDITION: Given Assid's catalog, this is constructed from premium solid hardwood, likely mahogany or walnut, finished to show off a warm, deep patina. The underside displays the crisp, authentic ink signature stamp typical of his factory pieces.
