Each … Read more A captivating set of six vintage handblown Hebron glass wine goblets, traditionally known as Phoenician glass, handcrafted in Palestine.

Each goblet features expressive bands of lavender, violet, turquoise blue, celadon green, amber, ochre and smoky brown. The layered colors flow continuously through the rounded bowl, sculptural stem and broad circular foot, creating a distinctive marbled or striated appearance. Because each vessel was individually formed by hand, no two glasses are precisely alike.

The softly frosted, nearly matte surface gives the glass an atmospheric, sea-worn quality, while the translucent amber interiors glow beautifully when illuminated by candlelight. Visible bubbles, subtle variations in shape and color, gently irregular rims, and unfinished pontil marks underneath the feet are characteristic of traditional handblown Hebron glass and contribute to the artisanal nature of the set.

Glassmaking has been practiced in Hebron for centuries and remains closely associated with a small number of Palestinian glassmaking families. Contemporary Hebron workshops frequently work with recycled glass, introducing mineral oxides to create the region’s characteristic blues, greens, ambers and jewel-toned colors. The technique is preserved through family workshops and apprenticeship rather than industrial production. Cultural Survival documents the Natsheh family’s continuing glassmaking tradition, while the International Folk Art Market identifies Hebron glassblower Hamzeh Natsheh as part of that multigenerational craft.

These sculptural goblets are equally compelling as functional drinkware and decorative art glass.
