Featuring a refined, minimalist square form, this sculptural frame beautifully showcases the natural character and texture of travertine marble. Its understated design and substantial stone construction make it an elegant decorative object as well as a functional photo frame. Although the frame is not marked or labeled, we can confidently attribute it to the iconic Italian brand Fratelli Mannelli, renowned for its sophisticated home accessories and decorative objects crafted in travertine. This attribution is based not only on the material, construction, and distinctive design, but also on a particularly fortunate discovery we made recently: a similar model by Fratelli Mannelli, featuring a semicircular shape, which still retained its original adhesive label. That frame had the same distinctive supporting base and, most importantly, the identical burgundy-colored Plexiglas photo holder on the back. Dating to circa the 1970s, this square Italian travertine photo frame measures approximately 25 cm (9.84 in) square. The opening for the photograph measures 13.5 x 13.5 cm (5.31 x 5.31 in). The photograph is inserted through the burgundy Plexiglas pocket on the reverse. The frame is in good vintage condition, showing only minimal signs of age and use, consistent with its period. The travertine also displays the natural variations and minor imperfections inherent to this beautiful stone, which further enhance its authentic vintage character. A sophisticated example of Italian 1970s design, this Fratelli Mannelli travertine frame would make an elegant addition to a collection of Italian decorative objects or a refined accent in a contemporary, mid-century, or eclectic interior.
