arne jacobsen was one of the most important danish architects and designers of the 20th century. His work is an integral part of modernism and is exhibited in numerous museums worldwide.
the young arne jacobsen initially trained as a stonemason before studying architecture at the royal danish academy of fine arts in copenhagen. There, jacobsen, who had to flee to sweden during world war ii because of his jewish heritage, was appointed professor in 1964. During this time, jacobsen intensified his work as a designer. He created classics such as the ant, the egg, the swan, grand prix, and series 7, all icons of modernism. Also from this period is the aj cutlery series, which stanley kubrick selected for his 1968 film classic 2001: a space odyssey.
arne jacobsen designed the "swan" chair in 1958 for the waiting area of the sas royal hotel copenhagen. The design was revolutionary at the time because it was conceived without corners or edges. This piece has an attribution mark,
