Crafted in warm walnut, the bed features a tall, dramatically shaped headboard, an elaborately carved footboard, coordinating side rails, and four gracefully curved legs terminating in delicate scroll feet.
The headboard rises to an impressive pierced rocaille crest composed of scrolling acanthus leaves, floral carving, and shell-like ornament. Its broad figured-wood panels are framed by serpentine moldings and restrained incised decoration.
The footboard is especially beautiful. A carved central cartouche encloses a naturalistic spray of flowering branches, surrounded by asymmetric scrolls and sweeping molded panels. Additional rocaille carving ornaments the lower apron and corners, giving the bed a richly furnished appearance from every angle.
The walnut has developed warm honey, amber, and deeper brown tones, with natural variation that emphasizes the carving and age of the piece. Substantial without feeling ponderous, this would make a splendid centerpiece for a romantic French, traditional, or collected designer bedroom.
The headboard, footboard, and original wooden side rails are included. Mattress, foundation, slats, and bedding are not included.
