We have not offered a piece like this for many years. The two board top is thin and is bull-nosed around the edges, and blunted at the front corners. The ends of the back boards are exposed along the length of the back, perhaps indicating there was once a glazed or open rack on top. The shallow overlay drawers are lap-joined. The doors too are overlay, flat-paneled, and mounted on long iron fiche hinges which allow the doors to open a full 90 degrees and lift-off if required, to reveal a single mortised-in shelf about half-way up. The central stile is fixed. The left-hand door closes first, from the inside, and is secured by a laterally placed bolt behind the stile. The right-hand door closes on a lock and key. The piece stands, with considerable presence, on nicely-shaped bracket feet.
The only trouble is, the piece is absolutely riddled with woodworm tracks. Nothing active we guarantee. We know because we first imported it from France in 1995. It has been in the house of a friend since then and we have visited it many times throughout the years. The doors drawers and case are liberally and fairly evenly covered in surface tracks.
