These statues are a beautifully rendered, very rare pair of mid-20th century porcelain statues depicting Quan-Yin (Guanyin/Kwan-yin), the Buddhist Bodhisattva … Read more These statues are a beautifully rendered, very rare pair of mid-20th century porcelain statues depicting Quan-Yin (Guanyin/Kwan-yin), the Buddhist Bodhisattva of Compassion imported by the well-known Wildwood Imports. This is a stylized depiction of Quan-yin sculpted in a relaxed royal ease pose (Rājalīlāsana) atop a stylized, rock-like grotto.

Each figure is beautifully detailed and hand-painted with ornate, colorful enamels and satsuma embellishments. The striking colors and detail are elegant and well executed. The combination of her muted-tone pastel robes and the highly specific oxblood red glaze on the base is characteristic of Japanese Satsuma or San-cai style porcelain figures.

Excellent quality. Both statues are in excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or damage. Typical wear on the bottoms commensurate with age. Pictures of fingers on both statues show bent fingers; they are not broken.
