The regional tradition is probably Northern French or Flemish. The architectural wall-mounted structure is entirely conceived in forged iron, combining an arched framework, horizontal and vertical structural members, individually formed scrollwork, twisted iron elements and bird finials. Three hanging utensils remain with the rack.

Construction is based upon traditional blacksmith techniques rather than predominantly welded ornamental-iron fabrication. Structural intersections are mechanically joined with hand-peened rivets, including large irregular rivet heads set through locally broadened and flattened sections of the adjoining iron bars. The surrounding metal retains uneven forged surfaces and variations in thickness characteristic of individually worked material.

The twisted vertical elements terminate in flattened and spread forged tabs laid mechanically across adjoining horizontal members. These terminals were worked directly from the iron elements themselves rather than formed as separate standardised fittings. Individual scrolls vary noticeably in diameter, curvature, alignment and terminal configuration; some narrow into tightly turned ends while others terminate more abruptly. These variations record the manual forming of the decorative ironwork.

The surface retains extensive evidence of age and manufacture beneath the later dark finish, including forge texture, irregular bar edges, oxidation and areas of pitting. The black surface coating should therefore be understood as a later finish over an older worked iron surface rather than the original appearance of the metal.

The combination of hand-forged bar stock, twisted iron, flattened terminals, individually formed volutes and hand-peened riveted intersections is consistent with Continental European archelles of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. A circa 1820 working date provides the most appropriate placement within that broader construction tradition while retaining the probable Northern French or Flemish regional attribution.
