One-of-a-kind industrial desk or worktable featuring a substantial reclaimed bowling alley lane top paired with a dramatic sculptural metal base.
The rectangular wood top is constructed from the narrow hardwood strips characteristic of traditional bowling lanes, retaining the variations, seams, marks and patina acquired through its previous life. A dark metal apron finished with regularly spaced exposed fasteners frames the top and provides a striking contrast to the warm natural wood.
The architectural industrial base is the standout feature of the piece. Large circular metal elements anchor each end, supported by heavy curved and angular components, spherical details and a central stretcher. The combination gives the desk the character of a repurposed piece of industrial machinery while remaining highly functional as a work surface.
Purchased in 2017 from The Findery Warehouse in Waco, Texas, a now-closed furniture and design retailer known for one-of-a-kind, vintage, reclaimed and industrial furnishings. At the time of purchase, the piece was represented as having been made with a reclaimed bowling alley lane top and a base incorporating reclaimed railroad materials. The exact original source and composition of the reclaimed components have not been independently verified.
The reclaimed wood top shows scratches, variations in tone, seams and other marks consistent with its previous use and reclaimed character. The metal base displays variations in finish, oxidation, weld marks and surface wear consistent with its industrial aesthetic.
A distinctive statement piece suitable as an executive desk, studio table, library table, console/worktable or dining table.
Wheels with locks were added after purchase for ease of moving it from room to room. They can be removed with ease.
