Here is a pair of vintage mid-century brass and copper angel candleholders, made in Hong Kong. Each sculptural figure is constructed from shaped and layered metal, with a tall conical brass body, rounded brass face and dramatically elongated copper wings.
Wonderful details give the angels their character, including curved copper headpieces that frame the faces, layered collars and breastplates, and beautiful hands with engraved fingers holding the candleholders. Each angel extends its arms forward to support a shallow brass candle cup fitted with a pointed spike.
The combination of bright copper and warm brass emphasizes the geometric construction, from the simple spherical heads and cone-shaped bodies to the sweeping wings and angular arms. With their substantial scale and wonderfully sculptural presence, these feel more like decorative objects than traditional holiday candleholders and display beautifully well beyond the Christmas season.
