The tall baluster-form porcelain body is finished in softly graduated shades of rose pink, ivory and pale yellow and decorated with a dramatic composition of pink, white and burgundy roses. A delicate rosebud decorates the reverse.

The porcelain vessel is framed by heavily modeled spelter or cast white-metal mounts in the Rococo Revival taste. The dramatically scrolling openwork handle incorporates C-scrolls, foliage and shell motifs, while the elongated upswept spout creates a particularly sculptural silhouette.

The ewer is raised upon an ornate quadripartite pedestal base with molded scrollwork and foliate decoration.

At approximately 18 inches high, the piece has considerable visual presence and was likely intended as a decorative parlor or mantel object rather than a utilitarian pitcher.

The overall design reflects the strong late-19th-century revival interest in French Rococo and Louis XV decorative arts.
