This early 20th-century French neoclassical chandelier is made from patinated bronze and gilt bronze, and brass. The contrasting colors and surfaces of the gilt and patinated bronze offer a rich visual display, highlighting the chandelier’s detailed craftsmanship. The neoclassical design and structure reference the 19th-century Louis-Philippe style. The Louis Philippe period was named after King Louis Philippe I of France, following the Restoration style and preceding the Second Empire or Napoleon III style.
The fixture is composed of a large center frosted glass flambeau with ten arms holding faux brass candles. Each arm is punctuated with a different mask inspired by motifs pulled from classical antiquity. The bottom of the fixture is embellished with a grand round of acanthus leaves and trumpet shapes, terminating in a central acorn finial. The main structure is held by five rods designed to resemble gold ropes, hooked onto rosette adornments on the crown. This grandiose neoclassical fixture would be perfect for adding a touch of drama to any interior.
