with the "Oxford" series, Arne Jacobsen developed a chair with a clean line, based on the relationship between a continuous volume and an extremely lightweight metal base. In this set of six chairs produced by Fritz Hansen in 1969, the shell, a contoured element that combines the seat and backrest in a single profile, is entirely upholstered in brown leather, with rounded edges that complement its shape. The upholstered surface appears almost suspended above the thin central metal support, inserted into the five-star aluminum swivel base. It is precisely the contrast between these two elements that gives the chair its character: on the one hand, the visual continuity and softness of the leather, on the other, the metal structure reduced to a few clear and functional features. The "Oxford" model was designed by Jacobsen in the 1960s as part of the project for St Catherine's College, Oxford, and became one of the most recognizable examples of his research into seating, in which form, ergonomics, and construction are combined into a highly synthesised design. These pieces retain the original Fritz Hansen label with the words "Made in Denmark" and code 0369. Good condition. May show signs of aging. Please pay close attention to the photographs.
