The lantern features a tall polygonal brass … Read more An elegant Swedish lantern pendant manufactured by Bröderna Malmströms Metallvarufabrik in the 1920s. The lantern features a tall polygonal brass frame fitted with frosted glass panels, each with broad polished bevelled borders that catch and reflect the light. Slender diagonal brass supports create a distinctive geometric pattern across the glass, giving the otherwise classically inspired lantern a more modern, architectural character. The upper section is particularly finely detailed, with a fluted brass canopy and decorative cast scrollwork spanning the top of the lantern. Suspended from its original brass chain and ceiling canopy, the lamp combines traditional lantern construction with the restrained geometric vocabulary associated with Swedish design of the 1920s. When illuminated, the frosted glass gently diffuses the light while the clear bevelled edges produce subtle reflections, emphasizing the faceted construction of the shade. A refined example of Swedish interwar lighting, balancing Neoclassical ornament with early Art Deco geometry. Its combination of patinated brass, bevelled glass and strong architectural proportions makes it particularly suitable for an entrance hall, stairwell, corridor or as an accent pendant in a period or contemporary interior.
