An exceptional and highly collectible Pretzel Chair, designed by George Nelson in 1952 and produced by Vitra in 2008 as a special limited Anniversary Edition celebrating the centenary of Nelson’s birth.

This particular chair is number 0259 from a strictly limited edition of 1,000 pieces.

Originally known as the Laminated Chair, the design soon became known as the Pretzel Chair because of its extraordinary sculptural silhouette. The continuous sweeping curves of the backrest and armrests demonstrate the possibilities of moulded laminated wood and give the chair an exceptionally light and elegant appearance.

For this 2008 edition, Vitra revisited Nelson’s iconic design in a particularly refined execution, featuring Santos palisander veneer. The beautifully figured wood is especially visible on the circular seat, while the slender tapered legs and dramatically curved frame create an almost calligraphic silhouette.
