Each candle holder … Read more This pair of vintage sterling silver hurricane candleholders is by Garden Silversmiths Ltd., New York, circa 1960s–1970s. Each candle holder features a beautifully proportioned weighted sterling silver base with gadrooned detailing, an urn-form stem and an openwork pierced gallery supporting a tall clear glass hurricane shade.

The original glass hurricanes are etched with a graceful floral and berry motif, adding a lovely decorative quality without overwhelming the traditional sterling bases. At approximately 15 inches tall, the pair has wonderful scale and presence—equally striking on a dining table, mantel, console or sideboard.
The feature we love is that the candle holders are convertible. The pierced gallery unscrews and the silver bases can be used alone without the globes.
Candles are not included.

The undersides are clearly marked “Garden Silversmiths Ltd. / Sterling / Weighted / 331.” Garden Silversmiths was a New York silversmith known for sterling hollowware and traditional silver designs.

Their Neoclassical styling works beautifully in traditional, Regency, Georgian Revival and collected interiors.
The height of the silver portion alone is 5.75” and the height of the glass alone is 10.75”. See less
