Fantastic vintage table lamp by Maitland-Smith, combining exotic natural materials with a wonderfully whimsical coastal wildlife composition.
The lamp features a finely detailed bronze-finish heron holding a fish in its beak, perched atop the shell of a sculptural tortoise. The figures rest on a substantial natural stone base accented with rich purple tessellated shell, creating a beautiful contrast of texture, color, and material.
The tall bronze-finish stem rises discreetly behind the sculpture, allowing the heron and tortoise composition to read almost as a freestanding decorative sculpture. A distinctive example of Maitland-Smith’s playful naturalistic designs and luxurious material combinations.
