A charming English Victorian dome-lidded box in rich rosewood, banded in bone strapping with brass stud (pique) decoration in the manner of Anglo-Indian and Victorian "Tunbridge" style boxes popular in the mid-to-late 19th century. The domed lid is centered with a radiating eight-point star medallion in bone with a brass stud center, flanked by additional bone bands studded with brass nailheads that continue down the front and sides. Minor imperfections consistent age.
Purchased from Colefax & Fowler in the 1980's.
