A fine French Empire daybed - historically referred to as a lit en bateau (boat or sleigh bed) due to its iconic curved shape - from the early to mid 19th-century, featuring a decoratively carved Neoclassical design of swans to the fore and aft.
Constructed from rich, polished flame mahogany and detailed with gilt-bronze (ormolu) appliques, including classic Empire laurel wreath motifs on the base and upper rails, with matching, outward-scrolling roll-end (volutes) of equal height and a long, flat mattress frame tucked between them
The frame supporting two bolster pillow cushions and a mattress with foundation add comfort and function to a beautiful period piece.
