An exceptional and highly decorative 19th-century Orientalist costume plate illustrating a Kavass (alternatively spelled Cavas or Cavass, the Ottoman Turkish term for an armed guard, police officer, or honorary escort attached to high-ranking officials, translated by the parallel Italian inscription "Guardia di Visir"). This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
