An antique octagonal book stand crafted by Robert W. Irwin for Royal Furniture, dating to approximately 1920. This elegant piece is constructed from flame mahogany, featuring a distinctive banded octagonal lattice top. The design includes an open shelf compartment, flanked by two oval panels with contrasting wood grain. The stand is supported by four tapered legs, which are adorned with carved scrollwork brackets at the top and finished with a dark, possibly ebonized, lower section. A cross stretcher connects the legs for added stability. A brass medallion affixed to the piece clearly identifies it as "ROYAL FURNITURE BY ROBERT W. IRWIN CO." and depicts a bust of George Washington. This stand exemplifies the fine craftsmanship and design characteristic of early 20th-century American furniture.
