The table top … Read more Antique Victorian petite game table for chess or checkers with a lovely inlay of pearly shell bits. The table top is likely papier maché typical of decorative furniture of the day, while the remainder of the construction is solid wood. All finished in black with tole painted floral motifs on the turned twist legs and the base stretcher feet. Appears to have originally been the top table of a nesting table set by the runner groove set underneath the top.

Piece is in stable and usable condition even though the top has a very slight visible warp when viewed just so. The black painted finish on the table base shows spots of wear throughout, appropriate for the age of the piece, and the black lacquer finish on the top has some fine craquelure lines, but no cracks nor chips. All shell bits are present, no missing pieces.

Game area measures 11.5" square. Table is 28" tall, 19.5" wide and 13.75" deep. See less
