During the Victorian era, the Royal Worcester porcelain factory, in Worcester, England, had an international reputation for extravagant, ornamental wares. Their artisans created Victorian interpretations of French Rococo design, combining ivory-tinted porcelain bodies, with delicate polychrome, enamels and rich gilding—only the wealthy could adorn their Victorian and Edwardian homes with these mantle pieces.
These soft pastels and intricate scrollworks helped to satisfy this time period’s craving for romanticism and ornate interior adornment.

What porcelain candelabra survives for 134 years, without some hiccups happening along the way? I am extremely critical, so I check everything, very closely. At some point, one (maybe two) of the arms have been reattached—by a very talented artisan—possessing unparalleled patience and skill! The center candle holder seems to be cracked, but NOT all the way through. There is some residual green, candle wax—I did my best to remove it, but mamma didn’t raise any fools—I stopped while I was ahead! The owners did what most people in the 1880’s would NOT have done with a broken piece of porcelain—they had it repaired by a professional—many would have just discarded the broken part, or all of it! less
