A late twentieth-century Arnolfo di Cambio rectangular lidded crystal box, produced in Tuscany, Italy, and distinguished by a strongly architectural Modernist form. The low rectangular body is constructed in heavy clear crystal with deeply articulated rectangular blocks arranged in a regular grid, while chamfered corners soften the otherwise rigorous geometry.
The matching crystal lid continues the block-grid treatment, creating a cohesive sculptural object suitable as a dresser, trinket or decorative box. The substantial crystal and optical repetition of the rectilinear cuts are consistent with Arnolfo di Cambio's broader Italian Modern design vocabulary, although no specific designer or named collection is assigned to this example.
The piece is acid etched Arnolfo di Cambio, securely establishing the maker.
