An exceptional Pernilla 3 lounge chair by Swedish designer Bruno Mathsson, produced by Firma Karl Mathsson in Sweden and dating to 1942.
One of Mathsson’s most recognizable designs, the Pernilla 3 combines a sculptural laminated beech frame with a woven leather seat that follows the natural contours of the body. The sinuous bentwood construction, elongated profile, and expressive leather strapping exemplify Mathsson’s pioneering approach to ergonomic Scandinavian modern furniture.
This example retains its warm beech frame and has been professionally restored with leather, preserving the distinctive woven construction and character of the original design. The leather presents beautifully, with a warm natural tone that complements the aged wood.
The chair has excellent sculptural presence and is a particularly early example of one of Mathsson’s most important seating designs.
