This substantial DISCONTINUED serving piece is a licensed reproduction of the historic Mimbreño china created for the Santa Fe Railway dining-car service.

-Particularly desirable is the large stylized turkey motif. While smaller pieces from the Pipestone Mimbreño service can be found, this oversized black turkey serving platter appears considerably more difficult to locate on the secondary market.

This substantial oval platter is a licensed Pipestone reproduction of the historic Santa Fe Mimbreño dining-car china. The original backstamp identifies the piece as “Ancient Mimbreño Indian Designs,” “Replica from Santa Fe Dining Car Service,” by Pipestone of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, and notes that it was produced “Under License from ATSF.”

Particularly desirable is the wonderful stylized turkey motif, one of the distinctive animal designs associated with the Mimbreño service. This is an oversized, discontinued Pipestone serving piece, measuring an impressive 15.375 inches across and weighing 3 pounds, 5 ounces. Its unusually substantial scale and weight distinguish it from the more commonly encountered plates, cups, bowls, and smaller serving pieces in the pattern. The large black Pipestone turkey platter appears especially difficult to find on the secondary market.

Rendered in crisp black against an ivory-white ground, the graphic turkey and intricate geometric border give the platter a remarkably modern appearance despite the design's historic inspiration. Its large scale and substantial ceramic construction give it wonderful presence on a table, sideboard, or wall display—this is as much a decorative statement piece as it is functional serveware.
