The pair depicts … Read more Impressive matched pair of antique Sitzendorf German porcelain figures, each exceptionally large at approximately 20 inches high.

The pair depicts an elegantly dressed young country couple or fruit sellers in colorful period costume. The female carries a basket filled with individually modeled fruit and wears a wide-brimmed hat, green bodice and beautifully hand-painted floral skirt. The male wears a black hat, green coat, striped breeches and tall boots, carrying a basket of fruit while holding a single piece of fruit in his raised hand.

Both figures are finely modeled with elaborate hand-painted decoration, applied details and gilt accents. They stand alongside naturalistically modeled tree trunks on ornate Rococo-style bases decorated with flowers and scrolling gilt ornament.

One figure bears the underglaze blue crowned “S” style mark associated with the Sitzendorf Porcelain Manufactory of Thuringia, Germany.

Measurements: approximately 20” high x 8” wide x 6.5” deep each.

Estate fresh antique condition. Both display beautifully. There is typical age-related surface and gilt wear. Old green felt is present on the undersides, with a portion removed from one figure revealing the porcelain and factory mark. Due to the size, age and considerable amount of delicate applied decoration, please review all photographs closely for minor losses, chips, old repairs or restoration that may be difficult to detect.
