Sourced in Northern Italy, both pieces share the same broad proportions, softly molded rims, rich gray patina, and distinctive floral rosette mark impressed prominently on the upper rim. The matching decoration gives the pair a particularly cohesive appearance and makes them ideal for display together.

The handled piece is a traditional two-handled broth bowl or porringer, known variously in European table traditions as an écuelle or scodella con manici. It measures approximately 9 inches in diameter and 11 inches from handle to handle, with a substantial weight of 699 grams.

Its companion is a matching deep plate or soup plate measuring 9 inches in diameter and weighing 462 grams.

Both pieces retain an attractive matte charcoal-gray pewter surface with oxidation, scratches, utensil wear, and tonal variation consistent with age and use. They have been left unpolished, preserving the naturally aged character of the metal.

The underside of the handled bowl bears a vertically oriented oval workshop-style touchmark surrounded by decorative scrolling or foliage. The deep plate carries a fainter circular or wreath-like mark on its reverse. The exact workshop and date remain unidentified, but the markings and forms are characteristic of traditional Continental European pewter production.

The rosette impressed onto the face of each rim is especially decorative. Rose and rosette motifs were used in various European pewter traditions as quality, workshop, or decorative marks, and on this pair they create an appealing visual link between the two pieces.

Together they make an excellent decorative grouping for an Old World kitchen, open shelving, dining-room hutch, mantel, or collection of European pewter.
