Rare Pair of Antique Minton BB New Stone 11" Oval Serving Platters – Chinoiserie Floral Pattern 41723,
Made in Staffordshire, England c. 1858-1860.
Each Approx. 1 1/8" x 9" Wide x 11" Long.
Beautiful, scarce matching pair of antique mid-19th-century English ironstone oval serving platters manufactured by the prestigious Minton pottery in Staffordshire, England.
Featuring a vibrant, intricately detailed Chinoiserie and Indian Tree-style floral motif, these platters display a striking central tree with blooming peonies and multi-colored foliage, framed by an elegant geometric and floral border.
The underside of each platter is deeply impressed with the authentic Minton factory "BB New Stone" stamp. The "BB" signifies Minton's renowned "Best Body" ironstone formulation, celebrated for its superior durability and porcelain-like finish.
Both pieces display the hand-painted pattern number "41723" in red enamel, alongside impressed potter's marks and date ciphers, securely dating this pair's production to the late 1850s (circa 1858–1860).
Both platters are in very nice antique condition, showcasing how beautifully they have been preserved over the last 160+ years.
Excellent used antique condition. The heavy glaze remains bright, clean, and glossy. The hand-enameled overglaze colors are vibrant with minimal historic surface wear. No chips, cracks, hairlines, or professional restorations are present. Minor, expected structural variations or light pitting from the original factory kiln firing may be present, consistent with 19th-century earthenware production.
