This cleverly designed vintage serving tray is crafted from Chinese rosewood
(hua li mu) with a dark lacquered finish and colorful mother-of-pearl shell
inlay. It features a two-part composition: a larger rectangular tray area
adorned with a pair of playful foo lions (fu shi) contending with a brocade
ball, and a smaller sliding compartment on the left inlaid with the vertical
calligraphic inscription "Ji Xiang Ru Yi" — a traditional blessing meaning
"May good fortune and contentment be with you."
The twin foo lions with brocade ball is a classic Chinese auspicious motif
symbolizing protection, prosperity, and the fulfillment of all wishes. The
shell inlay uses iridescent white, red, and green tones set against the deep
brown lacquered wood, creating a vivid, jewel-like effect.
The sliding pull-out compartment adds functional storage — perfect for tea
accessories, small sweets, jewelry, or desk essentials. Equally suited as a
