An impressive English rosewood stationery box dating to circa 1830, exceptionally well constructed and richly appointed with brass strapping. The beautifully figured rosewood case has a substantial architectural form, with brass reinforcing the corners and edges and adding a handsome contrast to the dark, richly grained wood.
The fitted interior opens to reveal graduated compartments designed for organizing correspondence, writing papers, envelopes, and other desk necessities. The quality of the cabinetry and brass work is particularly fine, making this an excellent example of an early 19th century English writing accessory.
The box retains wonderful character and presents exceptionally well for its age. The original working key is no longer present. A key that fits within the lock can be supplied for presentation but does not operate the mechanism.
