Here is a handcrafted faux bamboo coffee table by Jan T. Zoltowski, featuring a black lacquer and gilt frame surrounding a dramatic hand-painted faux-marble top. The marbleized panel is rendered in black with sweeping gold veining and bordered by fine gilt pinstriping.
The sculptural base features segmented faux bamboo legs with gilt ring details, curved corner supports and brass-tone feet. The combination of glossy black lacquer, warm gilding and hand-painted decoration gives the table a wonderful English Regency character with Chinoiserie influence.
The underside is hand-inscribed “Handcrafted by Hr. Jan. T. Zoltowski” and also bears a vintage Warner Bros. property stamp. An unusual concealed compartment is incorporated into the underside of the table, perhaps intended for discreetly storing documents or other small items. Zoltowski was a Polish-born craftsman who trained in antique and art restoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and later studied antique restoration in Italy before coming to the United States.
A distinctive, beautifully crafted table with wonderful decorative presence and an unusual documented maker.

The hand-painted faux-marble top presents beautifully overall. The legs unscrew for easier shipping.
