He showed signs of his talent for … Read more Bjørn Wiinblad (1918–2006) was a Danish painter, designer, stage designer, and visual artist. He showed signs of his talent for drawing and creating imaginative worlds from a very early age. At 17, he began an apprenticeship as a typographer but soon realized that his heart belonged to art. from 1940 to 1943, he studied painting and illustration at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. from 1957, Wiinblad served as chief designer for Rosenthal AG for over 49 years. Although Bjørn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen, his style was anything but Danish. While functionalism dominated Denmark, Wiinblad's works were characterized by bold colors and sharply defined figures with large, round faces, prominent eyes, and pointed noses, often set in naturalistic environments with delicate tendrils, floral wreaths, and stylized trees.
