CONTEXT: The "Worlds Fair" this group supported was the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE), hosted in San Francisco from February 20 to December 4, 1915. The exposition celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal. More importantly for San Francisco, it served as a grand showcase to prove the city had completely recovered from the devastating 1906 earthquake and fire. The fair was a massive success, spanning over 600 acres in what is now the Marina District. Led by its founder and president, Ida Olsson Hanson Malmquist, they funded and organized traditional Swedish entertainment, coordinated cultural parades, and served as formal docents for the Swedish exhibitions at the fair.

The luncheon’s guest of honor, Mrs. Richard Bernstrom, along with her husband, Mr. Richard Bernstrom, were prominent dignitaries visiting from Stockholm, Sweden. They spent roughly a year traveling across the United States, acting as international representatives connecting Swedish cultural societies in America back to the homeland. This grand luncheon was a formal farewell celebration held just three days before the World's Fair officially closed forever.
