Each plate measures … Read more A beautiful pair of antique Italian botanical plates by Società Ceramica Richard, decorated in the Linneo pattern. Each plate measures approximately 20 cm / 7.9 inches in diameter and features delicate green-gray floral transfer decoration on a white glazed ground. The two plates are part of the same series but feature different botanical arrangements, giving the pair a coordinated rather than identical appearance. This variation is especially attractive when displayed together and reflects the botanical character of the Linneo line. Both plates are marked on the reverse with the distinctive green ribbon backstamp: LINNEO S.C.R. The initials S.C.R. refer to Società Ceramica Richard, one of the important Italian ceramic manufacturers of the late 19th century. Based on the mark, form, glaze and construction, these plates are consistent with late 19th- to very early 20th-century production, approximately c. 1880–1900.
