An impressive pair of monumental Neoclassical Revival fireplace andirons, standing an unusually substantial 31 inches tall. Each andiron features a stately fluted brass column surmounted by a large spherical ball finial, recalling the architectural vocabulary of classical columns and traditional cannonball andirons.
Decorative cast collars with egg-and-dart and floral detailing provide a particularly refined transition between the columns and finials. The columns rise from faceted bases supported by broad, symmetrical scroll-form feet, giving the pair an elegant and highly sculptural presence.
The brass fronts are joined to substantial iron log supports, allowing the andirons to function as originally intended while also making a handsome decorative statement in an unused fireplace. Their exaggerated height and strong architectural silhouette make them especially well suited to a large mantel, grand living room, library, or dramatic designer interior.
