Measuring just 2.75 inches tall, the sculpture has remarkable presence for its diminutive size. The dramatic upright boat/prow form combines a richly textured golden amber surface with clear glass and expressive multicolored elements incorporated within the sculpture. Red, blue, yellow, and darker accents create an intriguing composition that changes as the piece is viewed from different angles.

Bertil Vallien is one of Sweden’s most celebrated glass artists and is particularly recognized for his sculptural interpretations of boats and other symbolic forms. His work for the historic Swedish glassmaker Kosta Boda is widely collected by enthusiasts of Scandinavian and studio art glass.

The underside is hand-signed/engraved “Kosta Boda B.V. 99311,” identifying Kosta Boda, Vallien’s initials, and model/production number 99311.
