Authentic matching pair of early 20th-century Windsor-style side chairs, expertly crafted by the iconic Chicago manufacturer S. Karpen & Bros. Features a beautiful steam-bent bow back detailed with elegant vertical turned spindles; hand-woven natural rush seats. The lower base features sturdy splayed legs connected by a decoratively turned H-stretcher system.
These chairs were built by S. Karpen & Bros., an iconic American furniture manufacturer founded in Chicago in 1880 by Solomon Karpen. By the early 1900s, Karpen grew to become one of the largest and most respected furniture makers in the world, renowned for merging robust industrial standards with traditional, old-world craftsmanship. On the bottom of the seat, an original paper factory specification tag remains partially visible—a historic signature of Karpen's quality guarantee.
Chairs were acquired directly from Karpen through a family-owned furniture store as new in the 1920’s and kept within the same family for three generations. Combines vintage American manufacturing of robust construction, this pair brings genuine vintage character to a modern farmhouse look.
