May 1968 Paris protest poster, Atelier Populaire, "Travailleurs – La Lutte Continue – Constituez-vous en Comité de Base"
Hand-pulled screenprint in blue ink on orange paper, produced by the Atelier Populaire, the student and worker collective that occupied the print studios of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris during the May 1968 general strike. The design shows a raised fist above a factory silhouette. The text reads: "Workers – The struggle continues – Organize yourselves into rank-and-file committees." The workshop's rubber stamp, "Atelier Populaire / ex-École des Beaux-Arts," appears at lower right.
These posters were printed quickly on cheap paper and pasted on walls across Paris, so few survived intact. The V&A, among other institutions, holds Atelier Populaire works in its collection.
Condition: Consistent with age and original use. There are horizontal fold lines, overall crinkling and handling wear, and scattered small spots and foxing, mostly along the left side. The ink shows the uneven coverage and edge bleed typical of hand screenprinting. (Add any tears, losses, or trimming you can see out of the frame.)
Framed: 12" × 15" overall, black lacquer frame with gold inner liner, under glass. The frame is not period.
