The elaborate musical mechanism plays eight airs and features a large pinned brass cylinder accompanied by five bells, a drum, and castanets.

The original tune card remains mounted inside the lid and is marked “Fabrique de Genève – Huit Airs” and “Tambour 5 Timbres & Castagnettes.” The handwritten program lists eight musical selections. An additional period retailer label reads “F. Thomsen, Store Kongensgade No. 21, Kjøbenhavn, fra Juni 1871,” connecting the piece to the Copenhagen retailer F. Thomsen.

The interior mechanism is displayed beneath its original glass cover, showcasing the cylinder, musical comb, five-bell assembly, drum, and percussion components. The exterior features rich wood veneers, decorative floral marquetry and contrasting ebonized trim.

A remarkable example of 19th-century mechanical music making and a beautiful decorative object in its own right. Its elaborate orchestral mechanism and surviving period labels make it an especially interesting piece for collectors of antique music boxes, mechanical instruments, and European decorative arts.
