A wonderfully characterful circa 1930s English door knocker cast in brass and modeled as a lion’s head, with a leafy wreath-form mount above and an integrated hinged striker below. Deeply modeled features and darkened recesses give the lion an expressive, almost heraldic quality, while decades of natural oxidation have mellowed the brass to a warm, beautifully varied surface.
Its compact scale makes it particularly appealing for a paneled front door, garden entrance, study door, or country-house boot room. The aged brass would be especially handsome against deep green, black, navy, or oxblood paint, adding the sort of small architectural detail that makes an entrance feel established rather than newly decorated.
