Here is a beautiful vintage hand-stitched mola textile created in the traditional Guna (Kuna) style of Panama. The colorful composition features a wonderfully graphic, symmetrical arrangement of abstract and heart-form motifs worked in layers of orange, red, green, purple, pink, blue, yellow and black.
The textile is beautifully presented beneath glass with a narrow gilt border that closely outlines the work, surrounded by a wide textured linen mat. An especially handsome layered wood frame incorporates antiqued gilt, deep red and dark-toned details that complement the colors of the textile beautifully. The framing appears to have been professionally done and gives the textile a sophisticated decorative presence.
A wonderful example of Panamanian textile folk art with both intricate handwork and bold, modern graphic appeal.
