The architectural sarcophagus-form box features warm wood-tone panels with scrolling neoclassical decoration, a dark antiqued finish, bun feet, and a dramatic stepped lid embellished with a repeating fish-scale motif and ornate ring finial.

The design recalls antique English tea caddies and the elaborate antique-reproduction accessories associated with makers such as Maitland-Smith, though this piece is unmarked and no maker attribution is intended.

The removable lid opens to a generous single-compartment interior, making the piece suitable for jewelry, keepsakes, correspondence, or other small treasures. At approximately 5.5 pounds, it is an unusually substantial decorative box with wonderful presence on a console, library table, desk, or vanity.

Made in China with original underside labels present.
