This mid-20th century American twig table belongs to that tradition, fashioned from willow saplings bent while green into a rhythmic series of Gothic-like arches. The technique required surprisingly little machinery and considerable instinct, knowing just how far a branch could be persuaded before it broke.

Found in Minnesota, the table has a square top above its wonderfully animated twig framework, with a slatted lower shelf adding another layer of practical usefulness. The willow has aged into the wonderfully varied surface that only bark, time and handling can produce. See less
