An exceptional, investment-grade pair of late 19th-century Austrian Royal Vienna style porcelain cabinet plates. Measuring a grand 10.5 inches in diameter, this matching pair features vibrant cobalt blue rims heavily accented with hand-applied, raised-dot gold gilding, scrolling flourishes, and stylized gilt heart leaf designs. The central medallions showcase exquisitely executed, hand-painted romantic pastoral and mythological scenes, each individually signed by celebrated porcelain decorators of the era.
Plate 1 ("Messenger of Love"): Features a romantic couple resting in a harvest field, interrupted by a flying cherub/cupid. Hand-painted and signed "Berg" in the lower right quadrant of the vignette. The reverse bears the blue hand-painted shield/beehive mark and the titled script inscription, Messenger of Love.
Plate 2 ("The Bird Cather"): Depicts a classical maiden and a suitor clad in draped garments resting alongside a woodland stream with a bird cage snare. Masterfully detailed and signed "K. Rädler" (attributed to the renowned Austrian artist Josef Karl Rädler) along the lower edge of the artwork.
