A magnificent Anglo-Indian armchair, with a spectacular design typical of furniture and craftsmanship produced during the British colonial period in India.
The armchair features a large, carved backrest decorated with plant motifs, such as leaves and flowers. This decoration continues onto the armrests, the base, the frieze beneath the seat, and the legs, which are topped with scrolls (likely a British influence). Traditionally, this decoration was believed to symbolize the prosperity and well-being of the buyer.

Anglo-Indian furniture is among the most intriguing and unique in the world of art, as it blends the techniques and skill of Indian artisans with more "classic" and British furniture styles, resulting in a fusion of the exotic and the traditional. This type of furniture originated in India between the late 18th and 19th centuries.

This piece features a seat reupholstered in a paisley print by the Italian firm Etro in reddish tones. This print also reflects the armchair's Indian influence, as it is inspired by an Indian pineapple design called "buto" or "boteh," which dates back to the 11th century and symbolizes life and fertility.
